Muslims are discouraged from keeping
dogs as pets. However,
guard dogs, sheep dogs and hunting dogs
are permitted.
Ibn ‘Umar quoted Allaah’s Messenger
(saw) as saying, “Whoever keeps a dog for
other than watching the herd or hunting,
will lose the weight of two mountains from
his [scale of good] deeds daily.” (Sahih
Muslim, vol.3, p.826, no.3815).Sahih Al-
